预计苹果将刷新120 hz变量rate and always-on display to the upcoming iPhone 13. According toMark Gurman of Bloomberg, we can expect a fast A15 chip, a smaller notch, a new display to improve battery life, Apple Watch-like always-on display and a 120Hz variable refresh rate along with an upgrade to video recording.

The 120Hz refresh rate and always-on mode were rumoured to feature in the iPhone 12, but Apple did not go through with it. As per Mark Gurman, at least one of the upcoming phones will have an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display that is capable of alternating refresh rate based on the content and enabling always-on mode.

The LTPO display has been used by Apple on its Watch for several years, but the display is expected to debut on an iPhone later this year. The iPhone 13 can feature a larger battery capacity to make up for the draining of power due to the LTPO display’s always-on mode.

The always-on display lets you see widgets like the clock and some notifications while the unused pixels on the display are off. Even though the always-on mode works on low power, it impacts the battery life and this could be one of the reasons for the battery upgrade.

The LTPO display enables the variable refresh rate that can optimise the battery life by dropping to the lowest refresh rate when in the always-on mode. We can also optimise the battery performance by lowering the brightness in the always-on mode.

The always-on mode is available on most Android devices with an OLED display. With iPhone 13 getting the feature, it could add to the competition between Apple and its premium Android counterparts like Samsung and Huawei.
